Mystery illness and adolescent ducks

I wish I could say I had a lot to share from the weekend. Unfortunately, I spent most of the weekend sick and asleep. My husband took some very unflattering pictures of me sleeping. At least I wasn't drooling.
I got a new camera lens that I wasn't able to play with much between the weather and my mystery illness.

But I snuck out to the creek behind the house and snapped a couple of pictures real quick.

And I managed to get these pictures while hauling around a beast on a leash..

Today I went out and fed the ducks at the duck pond. Remember the babies from awhile back?
 They grow up so fast!

I'm looking forward to the end of this school year. But that also means that it is a VERY busy time for teachers. It seems like there is an event/meeting/ or awards ceremony every night. It's also a very fun time, I love seeing my students reach another milestone. I REALLY like the idea of a break soon too!

This puppy got dumped! Anyone interested?

UPDATE: Puppy has been claimed! There are decent human beings on this earth!

Email me for more information if you are interested.

This was an email from a friend who has taken in the dog temporarily.

GOOD HOME WANTED!

Meanwhile here is her info:  A neighbor saw her being "dumped" from a car.
I returned home from a walk to find a small, white female pit bull on my front porch.  She is VERY SWEET, and nearly licked me to death.
She is half starved, and has fleas. She is all white with light brown eyes, and is missing a back toenail.  I don't think she's been fixed. She seems pretty young. She has not barked at all.

She has NOT been aggressive toward my corgi or cat  at all.
She walks like she's in pain.  I put some peroxide on her toe, and she fussed, but didn't get aggressive or ugly.  I don’t know how she'd lose 2 nails back there.   I guess if I don't have any takers- I need to call Animal Control soon.

I've had a bad attitude the last few days. I have found that it helps to stop and appreciate the small things when I start feeling "a little off". The wild flowers are EVERYWHERE after all the rain we have had. I love them, despite my insane allergies.

Up close, they are even more fantastic. Apparently, I'm not the only one enjoying them.

One of my favorite things about Texas are the sunsets. They make me think of that Willie Nelson song..."Mendicino County Line". I don't know why.

I spent Sunday afternoon taking pictures of models in the stockyards. It was a LOT of fun. I met nice people and I wasn't so nervous taking pictures this time. I got a few good shots and I love the stockyards. I can't believe I've never been there before! I'm thinking about taking my own "models" out there. I have a couple of cute nieces that would be pretty models!

I'm super excited...I just ordered a new lens! It should be here by the end of the week and I can't wait to break that bad boy in!

Happy Monday

It's been a busy weekend...I thought I would share a Peanuts moment for this morning. Isn't this the truth?

The Shape of my Heart

On this dreary day...a song that I love. I hope you like it too.

A day in the life of ...and some other ramblings about weight loss surgery

I was reading one of my favorite blogs this morning written by a post weight loss surgery patient. Her name is Shelly and she has tasty modified recipies for those of us who require higher protein/low carb nutrition. Check out her blog here if you are interested: (http://www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/)

A bunch of weight loss patients with blogs are posting a typical day of eating since our stomaches have been modified. I thought it would be fun to join in. A lot of my friends are also curious about my eating habits after weight loss surgery.. so here ya go.

First, here is a quick overview of my weight loss journey.

I had Roux en Y gastric bypass on Aug. 14, 2007. It was my college graduation present! Thanks Dad!

The best decision we've ever made. On this day I commited to a total lifestyle change. I weighed 340 pounds the morning of surgery and I wore a size 30 in pants and a 3X shirt. I was miserable physically and emotionally. I had always been heavy but after a prolonged period of severe depression in college I really packed on the weight. The breaking point for me was putting on a size 30 pair of jeans and having to suck in to get them on.

See?
This was two months after my bypass and I was down about 40 lbs. Yikes.

Now. After losing the weight and having my thigh lift. It's a crappy phone pic but you get the idea. It's like someone created a "mini me" for me.

Now I weigh in at 150 ish depending on the day...I wear a size 8/10 pants. I have a significant amount of loose skin but my plastic surgeon is amazing and will make me beautiful when I'm ready. Even though I feel gross with the skin, I feel healthy and happy with my weight loss.

As a result of my surgery I can only eat small amounts of food at a time and I can only tolerate sugar in small amounts after a protein dense meal. Here is the run down..a day in the life of post bariatric surgery eating.

Pre-Breakfast-More coffee than any person should ever consume in one day.

For breakfast, I had Fage 2% greek yogurt - I love it. Sometimes I add fruit and almond slivers to make it even tastier. 1 small container has a whopping 20 grams of protien for only 120 calories!!!

Lunch today was a Sonic Grilled Chicken Sandwich with only half the bun.  I was only able to eat about 3/4 before I was stuffed. I was too late to pack a lunch today...

Snack: Grande Sugar Free Vanilla Latte with Whole Milk. (My transfer addiction from food)

Dinner: Taco Bueno- Tortilla soup with shredded cheese

After coming home from working at the GAP I was starving! I don't always have the extra snack, but if I am legitamately hungry, I eat.

Late night snack- Apple slices and a dollop of peanut butter

Now for a hot bath and some music. Maybe it's a David Gray night.

Eye Candy

I'm a tad bit bummed out...it's just one of those days. I admit to watching one of my favorite episodes of Lost just to watch Dr. Jack flex his muscles and get hot and sweaty in the jungle. What I wouldn't do to be Kate in any one of those episodes.Well...except for the one when she got busy with Sawyer. He's gross.

Now I'm gearing up to watch a couple of episodes of House...I'm completely mesmerized  by Hugh Laurie. Seriously. Hot. And dude, his eyes are piercingly blue. Apparently I dig old men, and I'm okay with that. It's a tough call for me to say who's better looking. Dr. House? or Dr. Jack?

Total. Eye. Candy.

One of those days!

Even after losing nearly 200 pounds...there are still days when I feel fat and wrinkly.

Monday, May 2, 2011

What a cold day! I hate not feeling the sun on my skin. We took Missy for a walk after work..it was pretty gross outside. I didn't have fun at all and the ducklings weren't out.

I wish today was as nice as Saturday..I spent most of the day outside. I went to a lighting/photography workshop in the morning. My favorite part (besides good conversation with a friend) was the surprise in the canal at Las Colinas. This monster was hanging out watching everyone ride by in the gondolas. Some old weirdo was poking it and trying to make it angry so I could get a good shot.

After the workshop I went to my new favorite place. The nature preserve in Plano. There is a hidden pond with all kinds of surprises. You just have to look around....

This guy watched me for a very long time before he scampered off. I gasped with total delight when I saw him. He really looked like this too!

Wanna see something gross?

Yes...it's guts are being squeezed out. Sweet.

and then...another surprise! I almost missed him.

And finally...I can't end my weekend in pictures without a duck shot. I love them so much.

I don't have any pictures from Sunday...I spent the whole day working at the Gap. And then put in my two weeks notice. It's time to have some fun in life. I can't wait for summer time...the pool is calling me!
